Motorcycle boots should be considered an essential element of protection, whether it's your kids' riding in the backyard on a TT-R90, or you taking off to carve up some back roads on your R6. The right type and size motorcycle boots will offer protection and support in crucial areas. Street/track-oriented sport motorcycle boots generally feature a heavily reinforced heel, reinforced toe area, heavy padding/cladding in the shin area, and a stiff sole.  The more racing-oriented motorcycle boots will also feature additional cladding/reinforcement and toe sliders. 

Sport touring-oriented motorcycle boots may bear a passing resemblance to their racing-bred cousins, but they tend to focus more on all-weather protection and durability, offer a greater degree of comfort than hardcore racing boots, and tend not to feature such pronounced protective cladding like toe sliders and plastic heel reinforcements.
